Therapeutic Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a therapy that has been used for over 2000 years.  When the flow of energy is disturbed for any reason, there is disruption in health and balance, which results in pain or illness. By stimulating specific acupuncture points along these meridians, the energy is regulated and optimal health & balance is restored.

During your initial consultation you a comprehensive case history will be taken, you will be asked questions about your diet, digestion, lifestyle, medical history, emotional wellbeing, sleeping patterns etc. The practitioner will then observe your tongue and take your pulse to aid the diagnoses of your internal wellbeing. Then you get to lay on the treatment bed and receive an acupuncture treatment. The therapist’s techniques are very gentle and incorporate breathing techniques, so you will find the experience very relaxing. Acupuncture involves the shallow insertion of sterile disposable needles as fine as a strand of hair into specific points on the body along meridians (energy channels). You will then have space to relax (around 20-30 minutes) and rest, maybe even sleep, while the acupuncture helps to rebalance the channels and organ systems.

If neccesary during the treatment you may receive a warming, relaxing and reinforcing technique called Moxibustion, which is made from the herb mugwort or have topical herbal linaments applied to areas of musculoskeletal pain.

15, 30, 45 or 60 minute remedial or deep tissue massages can be added to your acupuncture treatment if you wish, to really help dissolve muscle tension and stress. At the end of the treatment you and the practitioner will discuss a treatment plan, Chinese herbal medicine or supplements may be reccomended, and practical lifestyle, dietary and stretch advice will be given to help improve your vitality.
